Hemp production in Kansas has the green light from Governor Laura Kelly.
The governor signed a bill to get started the Industrial Industrial Hemp Plan. This is the most current step in beginning the hemp business statewide. The Kansas Division of Agriculture has to submit a program for monitoring and regulating industrial hemp. The program will also contain prohibitions for particular production and advertising and marketing efforts, and it will also establish waste disposal specifications.
When that is completed, KDA has to submit the program to the US Division of Agriculture for final approval.
Even with program improvement and approval pending, the governor’s workplace says this is the 1st year industrial hemp can be developed — despite the fact that it is only permitted in study applications as authorized by the 2014 Farm Bill.
